Rayrigg Motor Group are one of Great Britains longest established family business' having started in 1900 amidst the beauty of the Lakeland Langdales. Originally the late Robert Smith established the business selling and repairing bicycles, a far cry from the business of today.
In 1931 Robert died and left everything to his son, Neil, who made the decision to incorporate automobiles, specialising in British Leyland models by Austin, MG, Wolseley,Rover,Triumph, Lea Francis, Jaguar,Ford, Jensen, Lotus, Daimler, Lanchester, Standard and Morris.
Based in Windermere, R. Smith Limited as the company became known, provided people throughout Westmorland with a quality service and the latest in automotive design. Those very same ethics still exist today.
Neil's two sons David and Robert became part of the team and they relocated their premises to Rayrigg Road, Bowness on Windermere and re named the company Rayrigg Motors Limited.
Robert Smith retired in 1996 and has been succeeded by his son Neil and other members of the family who now take a more active role in the running of The Rayrigg Motor Group.
Rayrigg currently have both Nissan, Kia and Fiat franchises and also specialise in taxi conversions and commercial vehicles through their sister companies namely Britcab and Vantastic.
As well as premises in Windermere Rayrigg also boast a state of the art showroom in Morecambe.
